Monoethylene Glycol (MEG)
Monoethylene Glycol (MEG)
Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) is a widely used glycol in oil and gas operations, particularly for gas-hydrate control and low-temperature fluid management. When injected into gas or multiphase systems, MEG lowers the freezing point of the aqueous phase and helps inhibit the formation of gas hydrates that can restrict or block pipelines and processing equipment.
Used in: Natural-gas production and transportation systems; subsea and onshore flowlines; gas-processing facilities; hydrate-management and low-temperature fluid systems.
Why it is used: To inhibit gas-hydrate formation and support reliable flow in systems exposed to water, gas and low-temperature conditions.
Key functions / benefits
- Effective thermodynamic hydrate inhibitor
- Supports flow assurance in gas systems
- Suitable for recovery/reclamation programs where system design permits
Typical form: Clear hygroscopic liquid
